Young Carers

What is a Young Carer?

A young carer is someone who looks after a member of their family who is ill, frail, disabled, suffers from mental ill health or a substance misuse problem.

Young Carers have told us that being a Carer can be hard sometimes.

  • They may not have much time to play with their friends
  • They might find it difficult to get their homework done on time
  • They might get bullied at school

If this applies to you, then the East Ayrshire Carers Centre is here to help.

The groups are set up as follows-

Carers Cottage, Kilmarnock -

  • Monday & Tuesday 4-6pm - Primary School aged
  • Mondays 6-8pm - Young Adults
  • Wednesday & Thursday 4-6pm - Secondary School aged

Cumnock Carers Centre -

  • Mondays 4-6pm - Primary School aged
  • Tuesdays 4-6pm - Young Adult
  • Wednesdays 4-6pm - Secondary School aged

New Cumnock -

  • Every Monday 3-5pm - Primary School aged

Dalmellington -

  • Wednesdays 4-6pm - Primary School aged
  • Thursdays 3.00-5.00pm - Secondary School aged

Our Young Carers Team are able to offer 1:1 in person support, as well as group support. You can come along and meet other young carers who know and understand how you feel. Come and socialise over a nice home cooked meal and most importantly have fun! We can help with emotional or practical support & help Young Carers complete a Young Carers Statement.
